Hesperia California

In 1988, voters approved incorporation and the City of Hesperia was born. During the early 1900's, automobiles brought visitors directly to Hesperia which was the last major stopping point for automotive to crossing the Cajon Pass. The road with its narrow turns and steep road wass only 2 lanes wide. Then came Route 66 which was directed west of Hesperia in 1924..

The city name which is a Greek word for "Star of the West". It is believed that Indians were probably the first to settle in the area, They are know as the Mojave Indians. Even thou the Indians crossed most of the area, most people believe the tribal headquarters was built on the Mojave River in Hesperia.

Around 1890, Hesperia's first real industry was Juniper bushes. A businessman saw commercial possibilities by growing large Juniper bushes. He found a business selling wood to Los Angeles bakers to burn in their bakeries. He was shipping 7 to 10 carloads of Juniper wood to Los Angeles everyday. Then oil took over and that ended the juniper industry in Hesperia.
